The Korea Rail Network Authority announced on the 6th that it will hold a public contest for private proposals to effectively utilize idle railway land and promote regional tourism.
The development sites are the old Mungyeong Station idle land (88,188㎡) on the discontinued section of the Mungyeong Line and the old Ganhyeon Station to Pandae Station idle land (239,401㎡) on the abandoned section of the Jungang Line.
The old Mungyeong Station idle land is adjacent to the Mungyeong Bus Terminal, benefiting from high foot traffic, which is expected to drive demand for future commercial facility development.
The old Ganhyeon Station to Pandae Station idle land is near the Ganhyeon tourist attractions such as the Sogeumsan Suspension Bridge, Ulleung Bridge, and camping sites. Additionally, the site extends up to Seowonju Station, providing excellent railway accessibility. Considering these factors, it is evaluated as a suitable area for tourism revitalization.
The contest will proceed by setting development directions and scales that leverage the locational strengths of each site, creating commercial facilities and tourism transportation infrastructure linked to railway stations for easy access by railway users.
The submission deadline is June 5, and to assist proposers, the Korea Rail Network Authority plans to hold a business briefing session at the Seoul Metropolitan Headquarters on the 25th of this month.
Further details about the contest can be found on the Korea Rail Network Authority’s website under announcements.
Lee Seong-hae, Chairman of the Korea Rail Network Authority, said, “We hope to receive numerous innovative private proposals that will transform idle railway land into representative regional spaces, contributing to regional economic revitalization and job creation.”
