Organizing Committee Holds Final Report Meeting on Implementation Plans for Island Expo
Aiming to Boost the Local Economy and Develop the Tourism Industry
The 2026 Yeosu World Island Expo Organizing Committee held the 'Final Report Meeting on the Research of Key Project Implementation Plans for the 2026 Yeosu World Island Expo' at the seminar room of the Yeosu Expo Convention Center on the 5th, and identified the top 10 key projects for a successful expo.
The meeting was attended by Park Soo-kwan, Chairman of the Organizing Committee, Lee Junghyun, Vice Chairman of the Committee for the Era of Local Autonomy, as well as about 60 directors and staff members. The event proceeded with the final report presentation followed by a Q&A session. The committee plans to finalize the key projects by the end of this month after incorporating various opinions presented during the meeting.

The key projects of the Island Expo include immersive media productions, UAM island flight demonstrations, creation of landmarks, operation of coastal island cruises, establishment of island art roads and theme zones, island camping and trekking, and themed tours of Birth Island. To realize these, the committee plans to develop theme parks, prepare tourism programs, establish maritime transportation, and host themed performances.
Park Soo-kwan, Chairman of the Organizing Committee, stated, "We will elevate Yeosu to a global hub for island and marine tourism through innovative content utilizing islands and the ocean," adding, "We plan to ensure that the Island Expo contributes to revitalizing the local economy and developing a sustainable tourism industry."
Lee Junghyun, Vice Chairman of the Committee for the Era of Local Autonomy, remarked, "As this is an international event, the city, council, and province will work together to secure the necessary budget for a successful expo," and expressed hope that "the expo will be an event in which the citizens of Yeosu can participate together."
Meanwhile, the 2026 Yeosu World Island Expo, under the theme 'Islands, Connecting the Sea and the Future,' is scheduled to take place from September 5 to November 4, 2026, across Yeosu, including the Dolsan Jinmo District.
