60% Support Special Prosecutor Act for Myung Taekyun
Next Presidential Election: 48% Favor Government Change vs. 39% Favor Administration Re-election
A public opinion poll revealed a slight increase in the number of people who believe that the Constitutional Court should accept the impeachment of President Yoon Seok-yeol and dismiss him from office. Trust in the Constitutional Court also showed some improvement.
According to the National Barometer Survey (NBS) conducted from the 3rd to the 5th by Embrain Public, K-STATS Research, Korea Research, and Hankook Research (phone interviews via mobile phones with 1,000 men and women aged 18 and over nationwide, with a sampling error of ±3.1 percentage points at a 95% confidence level, and a response rate of 19.4%), the percentage of respondents who said President Yoon should be impeached and dismissed rose by 2 percentage points from the previous week’s survey to 56%. The proportion of those who said the impeachment should be dismissed and the president should return to office decreased by 1 percentage point to 37%.
Regarding political orientation, progressives were divided with 87% supporting impeachment acceptance, conservatives with 69% supporting dismissal of impeachment, while 66% of centrists said impeachment should be accepted.

When asked whether they believed impeachment would be accepted regardless of their personal opinion, 62% said yes, down 2 percentage points from the previous week. The percentage who believed impeachment would be dismissed remained unchanged at 28%. Regarding President Yoon’s response to the impeachment trial, 34% viewed it positively, while 58% evaluated it negatively. Positive evaluations decreased by 3 percentage points, while negative evaluations increased by 2 percentage points.
Trust in the Constitutional Court, which judges the impeachment, also improved slightly. The percentage of people with a positive perception rose by 2 percentage points to 54%, while those with a negative perception decreased by 4 percentage points to 40%.
Regarding the next presidential election, Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, ranked first with 29%. He was followed by Kim Moon-soo, Minister of Employment and Labor (10%), Oh Se-hoon, Mayor of Seoul (8%), Han Dong-hoon, former leader of the People Power Party (6%), Hong Joon-pyo, Mayor of Daegu (6%), Kim Dong-yeon, Governor of Gyeonggi Province (2%), Ahn Cheol-soo, member of the People Power Party (2%), Yoo Seung-min, former lawmaker (1%), Lee Jun-seok, member of the Reform New Party (1%), and Kim Boo-kyum, former Prime Minister (1%). The percentage of respondents who had no preferred candidate was 28%.
Regarding the presidential election landscape, 48% said the government should be replaced, unchanged from the previous week. The percentage who said the current administration should be re-elected fell by 3 percentage points to 39%. In party support ratings, the Democratic Party received 35%, the People Power Party 34%, the Justice Innovation Party 6%, and the Reform New Party 2%.
Regarding the Special Prosecutor Act for Myung Tae-kyun, 60% supported it, while 29% opposed it.
