Expectations for Resident-Led Tourism Revitalization

Wando-gun has been selected as a target site for the "2025 Regional Tourism Organization (DMO) Development Support Project," hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and organized by the Korea Tourism Organization.


According to Wando-gun on the 6th, a Regional Tourism Organization (DMO) is an entity that integrates and manages tourism resources through cooperation among residents, businesses, and local governments, led by the local community. It plays a key role in establishing a sustainable tourism ecosystem that enables the region to thrive independently.

With this selection, Wando-gun will receive 100 million KRW in national funding this year, up to a maximum of 500 million KRW over five years, as well as customized consulting from tourism experts tailored to the region.


In Wando-gun, Cheongsan Nonghyup will participate as the project operator. Cheongsan Nonghyup will form a regional tourism organization composed of the Wando-gun Tourism Council, tourism businesses, and residents. The organization plans to develop unique tourism content utilizing Wando's various healing resources, plan seasonal festival programs, operate an island tourism open school to nurture local tourism professionals, and strengthen resident-led tourism promotion and marketing to attract visitors.


Governor Shin Woo-cheol stated, "We will actively support the revitalization of resident-led tourism projects and strengthen the competitiveness of Wando tourism," adding, "As this year is the Year of Visiting Wando, we will do our utmost to usher in an era of 10 million tourists and contribute to economic and regional development."
