Book Information Included in Textbooks Now Searchable and Usable
Available on the Integrated Reading Education Platform "Dokseoro"
Useful for Reading Education and Subject Classes
It will become easy to search for book information included in textbooks and even make loan reservations at school libraries.
On the 6th, the Ministry of Education announced that, in cooperation with the Korea Education and Research Information Service and textbook publishers, it will open a database (DB) of book information included in textbooks on the integrated reading education platform "Dokseoro."
Until now, book information included in textbooks could only be checked in printed media such as textbook appendices, which limited the integration, classification, and utilization of the book information by school level, grade, and subject.
The Ministry of Education has resolved these inconveniences and supported reading activities linked to the curriculum by building and completing a "Textbook-Included Book Information Database" with the participation of 16 textbook publishers.
The database has a function to collect information on books included in textbooks, and related information was collected until December last year. The collected data includes basic information on books in various fields such as literature, history, science, and social studies included in elementary, middle, and high school textbooks published by the 16 textbook publishers (title, author, publisher, year of publication, etc.), as well as information on the textbooks themselves (subject, curriculum, year of publication, school level, grade, textbook name, textbook publisher name), and information on textbook units or page numbers.
This information can be accessed by teachers or students who log in after authentication on Dokseoro, selecting and searching by grade and subject, or by downloading the information as a file for use. Additionally, by clicking on the book title, users can check whether the book is available in their affiliated school library and make loan reservations.
The Ministry of Education plans to first open the data to students and teachers in the first half of the year, and then gradually open it as public data so that anyone can utilize it.
Through this, students will be able to plan reading activities connected to the curriculum according to their interests and levels, and teachers will be able to comprehensively check book information related to subjects included not only in their own school textbooks but also in other textbooks, which is expected to be useful for lesson research and subject classes.
