Yeosu Coast Guard Begins Recruitment for Coastal Safety Guardians

Recruiting 14 Coastal Safety Guardians
to Serve as Maritime Safety Assistants

Yeosu Maritime Police Station in Jeonnam (Chief Choi Kyunggeun) announced, "We are recruiting 'Coastal Safety Guardians' who will be active in coastal danger zones from May to October."

The Coastal Safety Guardian program assigns local residents who are well-acquainted with the characteristics of the coast to various hazardous locations. Their duties include providing information such as tide times and safety guidelines, inspecting safety facilities such as warning signs and life-saving equipment boxes, and promptly reporting and assisting in rescue operations in the event of coastal accidents, thereby supporting the maritime police in their coastal safety tasks.

According to Yeosu Maritime Police, applications will be accepted until April 1 following a 20-day announcement period from the 6th to the 25th. After document screening and physical/interview evaluations, a total of 14 people (including 2 reserves) will be finally selected.

Eligible applicants are coastal area residents aged 19 or older who are in good health and have experience and enthusiasm for coastal accident prevention activities.

In particular, the plan is to actively hire individuals from low-income or vulnerable groups, those holding maritime safety certifications, and those with relevant experience such as police officers, military personnel, or firefighters. For more details, please refer to the bulletin board on the Yeosu Maritime Police Station website.

The final Coastal Safety Guardians selected will work in teams of two at six coastal danger zones in the Yeosu and Goheung areas from May to October, performing patrols and safety guidance for three hours each day over 17 days each month.

A Yeosu Maritime Police official stated, "By appointing local residents who are well-versed in regional circumstances, we expect to greatly contribute to the prevention of coastal accidents, the establishment of an efficient public-private safety management system, and the creation of jobs for vulnerable groups."
