Celestial Observation Experiences at Honam Landmarks
A Special Night for Families and the Public
The National Gwangju Science Museum will operate the "2025 Mobile Science Museum Celestial Observation Program" from the 8th to the 29th of this month.
According to the Gwangju Science Museum on the 6th, this program is aimed at families and the general public and will be held at popular sites in the Honam region, with the goal of spreading scientific culture and fostering community collaboration.
The program includes professional explanations about the sun and telescopes, as well as solar observation using astronomical telescopes. Participants will be able to directly observe sunspots and solar prominences, and learn about solar activity and the principles of astronomical telescopes.
The celestial observation program will start at Suncheonman National Garden on March 8, followed by Damyang Children's Provence on the 15th, Gochang Dolmen Museum on the 22nd, and return to Suncheonman National Garden on the 29th.
This year, the program will especially be held in outdoor spaces harmonized with nature, so that local residents can enjoy science experiences in more familiar locations. Astronomy education in spacious and open environments is expected to provide participants with a more immersive learning experience.
Jang Sungjae, a researcher at the Science Education Office, said, "We designed this program to stimulate participants' scientific curiosity through celestial observation and to allow them to experience astronomy in everyday life," adding, "We will do our best to help participants create special memories."
