[MWC On-site] SKT Introduces Governance for Safe AI... Discusses Collaboration

AI Governance Task Force Launched Earlier This Year
AI Code of Conduct Specified and Incorporated into Company Regulations

SK Telecom announced on the 6th that it introduced its artificial intelligence (AI) governance to various overseas organizations and operators and discussed cooperation plans at the 'Mobile World Congress 2025 (MWC2025)' held in Barcelona, Spain.

AI governance is a value system that pursues sustainable technological development by ensuring the reliability and safety of AI. SK Telecom launched a dedicated AI governance team directly under Jeong Jae-heon, Chief Growth Officer (CGO) and President in charge of external cooperation, earlier this year, determined to make this year the inaugural year for the expansion of AI governance.


Additionally, SK Telecom showcased the content and implementation achievements of its AI governance principle 'T.H.E. AI' to overseas organization officials such as the Global System for Mobile Communications Association (GSMA), the European Telecommunications Network Operators' Association (Connect Europe), and Deutsche Telekom.


T.H.E. AI stands for 'by Telco, for Humanity, with Ethics AI.' It represents the characteristics of SK Telecom AI (by Telco, based on telecommunications technology), its goal (for Humanity, toward and for people), and its values (with Ethics, centered on ethical values). Based on this principle, SK Telecom has concretized the 'AI Code of Conduct,' incorporated it into company regulations, and established AI governance within the organization by having all members participate in pledges to practice it.


SK Telecom also achieved the distinction of being the first domestic telecommunications company to obtain the international standard certification for AI management systems, 'ISO/IEC 42001.' Moving forward, it plans to take the lead in sharing the necessity of AI governance with organizations such as GSMA and global operators and in discovering areas of cooperation for building and applying it. Furthermore, SK Telecom is building an AI governance portal that strengthens the management of reliability and safety across all processes of its AI services, including planning, research, development, and operation.
