Jungnang-gu, Sewer Dredging and Maintenance of Aged Sewer Facilities Ahead of Rainy Season

Proactive Maintenance of Aging Sewer Facilities
to Prevent Flood Damage through Sewer and Storm Drain Cleaning

Jungnang-gu, Sewer Dredging and Maintenance of Aged Sewer Facilities Ahead of Rainy Season

Jungnang-gu (Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi) will carry out a large-scale sewer maintenance and aging facility improvement project to prevent flood damage and ensure safety during the upcoming summer season.

The district will invest a total of 1.9 billion KRW from its budget to remove foreign substances and conduct cleaning work on 83 km of sewer pipelines and all storm drains in the area. Through this, it plans to prevent flood damage and reduce foul odors to alleviate inconveniences for residents. This maintenance will be carried out year-round, starting from March until the end of December.

Additionally, due to an increase in urgent complaints requiring immediate action during heavy rains caused by recent abnormal weather patterns, the district will actively promote the maintenance of aging sewer facilities with a budget of 1.2 billion KRW. Proactive maintenance work will be conducted on 920 meters of sewer pipelines, 75 storm drains, and 28 manholes to prevent safety accidents such as road collapses and prepare for urban flooding.

Furthermore, to ensure smooth drainage, storm drains will be regularly inspected, and to prevent accidents caused by backflow during heavy rains and manhole cover openings, additional fall-prevention facilities for manholes will be installed.

Ryu Kyung-gi, Mayor of Jungnang-gu, stated, “Protecting the lives and property of residents in preparation for heavy rains and abnormal weather is our top priority,” adding, “We will proactively maintain sewers and aging sewer facilities to create a safe and pleasant Jungnang-gu.”

The district continuously accepts complaints related to sewer odors and sewer facilities and is doing its best to improve residents’ living conditions through prompt on-site inspections and maintenance.
