"Providing Safe and Effective Treatment for Patients"
Chonnam National University Hospital (Director Shin Jung) announced on the 5th that it has received the top grade for the sixth consecutive time in the first round of the second cycle of the "2023 Hemodialysis Adequacy Assessment" conducted by the Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service.
Hemodialysis is a treatment that artificially purifies the blood of patients whose kidney function has deteriorated by filtering out waste products from the blood. As one of the renal replacement therapies for patients with end-stage renal failure, the number of patients undergoing hemodialysis has been steadily increasing due to the aging population and the rise in chronic diseases.
This first round of the second cycle of the hemodialysis adequacy assessment evaluated 972 medical institutions that performed hemodialysis from January to June 2023.
The evaluation consisted of six assessment indicators: ▲ Quality indicators for physician staffing (proportion of physicians specializing in hemodialysis, average number of dialysis sessions per physician per day) ▲ Quality indicators for nursing staff (proportion of nurses with more than two years of hemodialysis experience, average number of dialysis sessions per nurse per day) ▲ Whether water quality tests are conducted early ▲ Compliance rate with the regular test cycle ▲ Hemodialysis adequacy compliance rate ▲ Calcium X phosphorus compliance rate, as well as three monitoring indicators, including ▲ Possession of emergency equipment in the hemodialysis room.
Chonnam National University Hospital scored 97.9 points, higher than the overall average (82.4 points). It also surpassed the average score of tertiary general hospitals (95.8 points), earning the top grade (top 10%) and being selected as an excellent institution, thereby receiving additional incentive payments.
In particular, Chonnam National University Hospital received a perfect score (100 points) for the "proportion of physicians specializing in hemodialysis" and was highly evaluated for the "average number of dialysis sessions per physician per day," "proportion of nurses with more than two years of hemodialysis experience," and "average number of dialysis sessions per nurse per day."
Shin Jung, Director of Chonnam National University Hospital, said, "Hemodialysis is a critical medical service that directly affects the quality of life for patients. We will continue to strive to improve the quality of care so that patients can receive safe and effective treatment."
