"If We Take Even One Wrong Step, We Could Be Engulfed by Shock"
Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon, referring to the economic crisis facing South Korea, urged the swift return of Prime Minister Han Duck-soo, who is currently undergoing impeachment proceedings.
On the 5th, Mayor Oh wrote on Facebook, "We must urgently activate a crisis response system before the economy falls into the abyss," adding, "For this, the Constitutional Court should expedite the impeachment trial of Prime Minister Han Duck-soo." The result of Prime Minister Han's impeachment trial at the Constitutional Court is expected as early as this week.
Mayor Oh cited the "economic situation" as the reason for Prime Minister Han's return. He explained, "As of January, production, consumption, and investment indicators all showed a simultaneous decline," and "With the tariff storm from the U.S. intensifying, the entire world is battling severe uncertainty in the economic, industrial, and trade sectors. It is truly an emergency situation with red lights flashing on all economic indicators."
He then emphasized, "The most effective and appropriate way to overcome the crisis is for Prime Minister Han to return as acting president, while Choi Sang-mok focuses solely on his role as acting Deputy Prime Minister for the economy."
Mayor Oh continued, "If we slip even one step now, we could be engulfed by a shock comparable to the past foreign exchange and financial crises," and added, "It is time to recall the lessons learned from overcoming crises with stable leadership. We look forward to the Constitutional Court's decision."
