Kim Se-yong, president of Gyeonggi Housing and Urban Corporation (GH), has expressed his intention to resign 10 months before the end of his term. He will return to his position as a professor in the Department of Architecture at Korea University.
It was confirmed that Kim expressed his resignation to Gyeonggi Province on the afternoon of the 4th. He took office in December 2022 and was scheduled to serve until the end of this year, but decided to step down early. His retirement ceremony is planned for the 5th.
Regarding the reason for his resignation, Kim briefly replied, "I am going back to school." He said, "I worked hard for the past 2 years and 2 months, and GH has grown a lot, which was rewarding. GH's integrity has greatly improved, and customer satisfaction also reached an all-time high."
Following Kim's resignation, Lee Jong-seon, GH Vice President and Head of the Opportunity Economy Headquarters, will serve as acting president for the time being.
Kim graduated from the Department of Architectural Engineering at Korea University, earned a master's degree from Seoul National University's Graduate School of Environmental Studies and Columbia University in the United States, and received a doctorate from Korea University's Graduate School. Since 2006, he has served as a professor in the Department of Architecture at Korea University. He has held positions such as member of the Presidential Committee on National Architecture Policy, professor at Columbia University, president of Seoul Housing and Communities Corporation (SH), and member of the Presidential Policy Planning Committee. He has also served as president of the Korean Urban Design Institute and as a full member of the National Academy of Engineering. Since December 2022, he has been serving as GH president, emphasizing innovation in housing policy and transparent management.
