The Naval Aviation Command announced on the 4th that it will participate in the multinational joint exercise "Sea Dragon," which is being conducted in the waters near Guam, USA, until the 14th.
The Sea Dragon exercise is a multinational joint training conducted annually since 2014 under the auspices of the U.S. 7th Fleet Command to enhance the joint anti-submarine warfare capabilities of maritime patrol aircraft. The Republic of Korea Navy first observed the exercise in 2019, and since 2020, a P-3 maritime patrol aircraft has participated in the exercise every year.
This year, the exercise includes participants from South Korea, the United States, Japan, Australia, and India. Our navy is sending one P-3 maritime patrol aircraft and approximately 40 personnel. During the exercise, participating forces will improve their joint operational capabilities through combined maritime patrol operational procedures and simulated anti-submarine target tracking training, as well as master anti-submarine warfare tactics.
Colonel Jeong Eun-suk, commander of the 613th Squadron and exercise commander, stated, "The Sea Dragon exercise is a great opportunity to enhance joint anti-submarine warfare capabilities among participating countries and to master anti-submarine tactics." She added, "Through realistic joint training, we will improve our ability to respond to underwater threats from adversaries and enhance interoperability with allied air forces."
