Active Discussions on Supporting the "Jinju’s Light Silk Lantern Exhibition" in Vietnam
Jinju City in Gyeongnam announced on the 4th that a delegation led by Mayor Cho Gyu-il is visiting Vietnam, Singapore, and Malaysia from March 2 to 11 to expand the export market for agricultural products, globally spread Jinju's cultural content, and establish international cooperation plans for events and major projects to be held this year.
As the first itinerary, the Jinju delegation visiting Vietnam met with the Korean Cultural Center in Hanoi and the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Vietnam to discuss the '2025 Touring K-Arts Traveling Exhibition Program,' which Jinju City and the Korean Cultural Center are jointly promoting.
The '2025 Touring K-Arts Traveling Exhibition Program' is a project supported by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Foundation for International Cultural Exchange, carried out by overseas Korean Cultural Centers to promote Korean culture.
This year, Jinju City plans to hold an international traveling exhibition under the theme of 'Jinju’s Light Silk Lantern Exhibition' in the Philippines (May to July), Indonesia (September to October), and Vietnam (October to December), utilizing Jinju silk and related materials in connection with this project.
To revitalize the silk industry, Jinju City has proposed cultural exhibitions using silk as one solution and has continuously promoted exhibitions of Jinju silk and related items, including the 2021 Gyeongbokgung Palace Royal Culture Festival, the 2022 KINTEX Regional Culture Expo, the 2023 special exhibition in S?o Paulo, Brazil, and the 2024 exhibitions in Niter?i and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Based on these achievements, exhibitions of Jinju silk and related items are rapidly emerging as unique Jinju cultural content, and it is expected that the Jinju culture will further enhance the global K-culture trend through the '2025 Touring K-Arts Traveling Exhibition Program.'
In particular, the 2023 special exhibition in S?o Paulo, Brazil, and the 2024 exhibitions in Niter?i and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, which utilized Jinju silk, have been publicized through SNS in Vietnam, and the Korean Cultural Center in Vietnam expressed high expectations for the Jinju silk exhibition to be held in Vietnam.
Mayor Cho Gyu-il stated, “Raising the brand value of Jinju City in the world by utilizing Jinju’s unique content that combines industry and culture is the foundation for Jinju’s sustainable growth and development.” He added, “This enhanced Jinju brand value will serve as the starting point for a virtuous cycle of growth and global market entry alongside fresh agricultural products such as strawberries, bio products, silk products, and excellent local goods,” and requested strong support from the Korean Cultural Center in Vietnam and the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Vietnam.
Choi Young-sam, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Vietnam, said, “This year marks the 80th anniversary of Korea’s liberation and the 70th anniversary of Vietnam’s liberation, making it a meaningful year to deepen and diversify exchanges between Korea and Vietnam. During this opportunity, the traveling exhibition of Jinju silk and related items will play an important role.” He also pledged, “We will not spare support for the continuous expansion of exports of Jinju’s fresh agricultural products and Jinju city products.”
Meanwhile, after Hanoi, the Jinju delegation will visit Ho Chi Minh City to support the opening of export channels by introducing ‘Jinju Dream Strawberry,’ processed balloon flower products (candy, health functional foods), perilla oil, and more through promotional and tasting events at ‘K-Market,’ the largest Korean food distribution mart.
