Ulsan City Signs Business Agreement to Establish Anti-Drone System

Network Establishment and Response to Illegal Drone Detection
Enhancing Safety of Nationally Important Facilities such as Industrial Complexes and Ports

On the 4th at 3 PM, Ulsan City will sign a business agreement in the large conference room on the 2nd floor of the city hall main building to establish a counter-drone system for nationally important facilities in the Ulsan area.

The counter-drone system consists of detection radars, identification and tracking equipment, and jammers for radio interference, providing comprehensive capabilities for detecting, identifying, and striking drones and unmanned aerial vehicles.

About 10 people will attend the signing ceremony, including Kim Du-gyeom, Mayor of Ulsan; Kim Bong-su, Acting Commander of the Army's 2nd Operations Command; Kang Gwan-beom, Commander of the Army's 53rd Division; Kim Kwang-seok, Emergency Safety Planning Officer of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy; and key officials from nationally important facilities in the Ulsan region.

Ulsan is a region concentrated with nationally important facilities such as industrial complexes and ports, making it highly vulnerable to threats from drones and necessitating countermeasures.

In particular, as illegal intrusions and terrorist threats using drones have recently increased, various agencies have recognized the need for joint responses to drone threats and have agreed to cooperate to establish a counter-drone system that zones and protects major nationally important facilities, leading to this agreement.

Through this agreement, each agency will promote △ the establishment of a counter-drone system network △ response to illegal drone detection △ and the development and operation plans for the counter-drone system.

Once the zoned counter-drone system is established in the area densely populated with nationally important facilities in Ulsan, it is expected to enable systematic responses to unauthorized and illegal drone approaches, intrusions, and terrorist acts.

Officials from the 2nd Operations Command and the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy stated, “This agreement will be an important opportunity to strengthen the safety of nationally important facilities,” and added, “We will combine the capabilities of each agency to build an effective counter-drone system.”

Mayor Kim Du-gyeom said, “Drones have recently been used as lethal weapons in wars in several countries, so preparation is necessary,” and added, “We will spare no support to establish the counter-drone system to safely protect the assets and lives of Ulsan citizens.”
