LG Uplus has taken the lead in the field of security technology, which is a core area in the era of artificial intelligence (AI). On the 5th (local time) at the world's largest mobile telecommunications exhibition, Mobile World Congress 2025 (MWC2025) held in Barcelona, Spain, LG Uplus announced its commitment to building a safe AI usage environment by prominently showcasing its AI security technology brand, 'IXI Guardian.'
Hong Beom-sik, CEO of LG Uplus, emphasized at a press conference that day, "We aim for 'human-centered AI' that focuses on customers using AI rather than the AI technology itself," adding, "The first step toward this is to create AI that customers can use with peace of mind."
Under the 'IXI Guardian' brand, LG Uplus introduced anti-deep voice, on-device sLM (small language model), and quantum cryptography technologies. These technologies are particularly notable as innovative security technologies first introduced by LG Uplus among global telecommunications companies.
The anti-deep voice technology defends against 'deepfake voice' attacks, where AI replicates voices for fraudulent purposes. Through this technology, LG Uplus can detect voice modulation in real time to protect consumers.
On-device sLM is a technology that implements AI functions within the device to prevent users' personal information from leaking externally. This not only protects personal information but also improves service speed.
Quantum cryptography is an encryption method that cannot be deciphered even by the computational power of next-generation quantum computers, and it is regarded as a preemptive technology capable of responding to future security threats.
CEO Hong explained, "The key is to prioritize security without slowing down the speed of service development," adding, "LG Uplus is boldly entering a new area that no one in Korea has yet challenged."
Based on these security technologies, LG Uplus is actively expanding global partnerships. At MWC25, it signed a strategic partnership to comprehensively utilize Google's AI engine 'Gemini' in its AI agent service 'IXIO.' IXIO is the world's first on-device AI agent, and through cooperation with Google, it is expected to enable more sophisticated analysis and customized services.
In particular, CEO Hong stated about the partnership with Google, "We aim to create value worth about $300 million (433.8 billion KRW) from 2025 to 2028," presenting concrete performance goals through collaboration with big tech companies. He also added, "We will continue to maintain cooperation with various big tech companies, including Google, in the future."
Collaboration with Amazon Web Services (AWS) is also becoming concrete. CEO Hong said, "There has been significant progress in discussions with AWS at this MWC," and "We are discussing the AI Contact Center (AICC) business through early collaboration with AWS." LG Uplus plans to create new value by combining AWS's cloud capabilities with its own telecommunications infrastructure.
