Korea-U.S. Communications Leaders Meet at MWC 2025
Proposals to Strengthen Bilateral Partnership and Cooperation on AI Policy

Kim Tae-gyu, Vice Chairman of the Korea Communications Commission, met with Brendan Carr, Chairman of the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC), on the 3rd (local time) at the 'Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2025' in Barcelona, Spain. This meeting drew attention as the issue of unpaid domestic network usage fees by U.S. big tech companies such as Google has resurfaced as a key issue following the second term of the Trump administration.


At the meeting, Vice Chairman Kim congratulated the inauguration of the second Trump administration and Chairman Carr's appointment, expressing hope to further develop the strong Korea-U.S. alliance based on the shared pursuit of liberal democracy between the two countries.


In response, Chairman Carr expressed hope that the partnership between the two countries would be further strengthened and emphasized the need to establish a legal system to protect users in relation to emerging topics such as artificial intelligence (AI) technology.


Meanwhile, Vice Chairman Kim conveyed greetings that Chairwoman Lee Jin-sook hopes to meet Chairman Carr during her visit to the U.S., and Chairman Carr expressed his expectation to meet Chairwoman Lee during her visit to the U.S., adding that since he has never visited Korea, he hopes to attend international events held in Korea related to ICT, AI, and the like.
