Future-Oriented Shopping Mall and Gourmet Grocery Store
Recognized for Design Competitiveness
Lotte Department Store announced on the 3rd that its new future-oriented shopping mall 'Time Villas' and gourmet grocery store 'L'?picerie' won the main prize in the Communication category at the prestigious iF Design Award 2025.
The iF Design Award 2025 is a globally recognized design competition held in Germany. Along with Germany's 'Red Dot Award' and the United States' IDEA (International Design Excellence Award), it is considered one of the world's top three design awards. The award evaluates the distinctiveness and excellence of designs across nine categories including product, communication, user experience, and service design. This year, about 11,000 entries from over 100 countries competed.
Lotte Department Store won the main prize at the iF Design Award for the second consecutive year following last year. The Time Villas, which won this year, is Lotte's new future-oriented shopping mall brand. Combining 'Time' with 'Villas,' which signifies the fusion of various spaces, it embodies the philosophy of 'a space where new time opens.' It aims to present the direction of a future retail platform that has never existed before through a convergence concept that transcends dimensions by combining the strengths of department stores, shopping malls, and outlets. The first result, Time Villas Suwon, was unveiled last year.
Lotte Department Store reflected the expandability of Time Villas, which holds infinite possibilities, in the identity design concept by starting from the basic unit of time and space, the 'Dot,' which then becomes a 'Line,' and further expands continuously into a 'Face.' Time Villas plans to open new stores in Songdo and Suseong by 2030, starting with the Suwon branch. Existing stores such as Gunsan, Suwan, and Dongbusan will be newly transformed through expansions and renovations.
L'?picerie is the new name for Lotte Department Store Market, combining 'L' and the French word for grocery store '?picerie' to convey the intuitive message of 'Lotte Department Store Grocery.' To visualize this feeling, the curves of Art Nouveau, inspired by the organic forms of nature, were reinterpreted to breathe life and vitality into the space. Additionally, sophisticated colors and sensory visuals add visual enjoyment, completing a new sense of 'Lotte-ness.' The L'?picerie brand design was newly introduced at the Incheon branch in 2023 and will gradually expand to major stores starting this year.
Jung Eui-jung, head of the Lotte Department Store Design Center, said, "This award signifies that Time Villas and L'?picerie have been recognized not just as spaces for selling products but as brands that provide customers with special experiences and value through their stories and strategies." He added, "This year as well, we plan to improve customers' shopping experiences and enhance brand value through consistent brand communication from the customer's perspective."
