Tree Branches Downed by Wind Identified as Cause
KEPCO: "Investigating the Exact Circumstances"
A power outage occurred in the areas of Wolgok-dong and Usan-dong in Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju, causing inconvenience for over 2,400 households. The outage, which was caused by tree branches coming into contact with power facilities due to strong winds, was resolved in about an hour thanks to Korea Electric Power Corporation's (KEPCO) emergency restoration efforts.
According to the Gwangju-Jeonnam branch of KEPCO on the 3rd, the outage was found to have been caused by tree branches touching power equipment in the wind. KEPCO dispatched an emergency restoration team and normalized power supply at around 8:45 p.m., about an hour later.
Due to the outage, three apartment elevators stopped, trapping five passengers inside, but fire authorities safely rescued them.
KEPCO is conducting a further investigation to determine the exact cause of the incident.
