"Responding to North Korean Threats...
Demonstrating Strong Combined Defense Posture"
The U.S. Navy's 100,000-ton nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson (CVN) has arrived in Busan.
On the 2nd, the Navy announced that the U.S. Navy's 1st Carrier Strike Group, including the USS Carl Vinson, docked at the Busan Naval Base. In addition to the Carl Vinson, the cruiser USS Princeton and the Aegis destroyer USS Sterett also appeared at the Busan Naval Base.

This visit by the aircraft carrier to Korea comes about eight months after the USS Roosevelt's visit in June last year, and was carried out as a practical implementation of the U.S. government's recently reaffirmed permanent and ironclad extended deterrence commitment. It is also intended to demonstrate the strong combined defense posture of the ROK-U.S. alliance in response to the ongoing threats from North Korea and to enhance the interoperability of combined ROK-U.S. forces.
During the Carl Vinson's stay, the ROK and U.S. navies plan to conduct various exchange and cooperation activities to promote goodwill between the two navies, including reciprocal ship visits and a visit to the United Nations Memorial Cemetery. Rear Admiral Lee Nam-gyu, Commander of the Naval Operations Headquarters, said, "Our military will strongly retaliate against any provocations by North Korea, and the ROK-U.S. alliance will support peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula and in the region based on a close cooperative system."
