Nine military and police officials accused of participating in the blockade of the National Assembly and the operation of arrest squads during the 'December 3 Emergency Martial Law Incident' have been brought to trial without detention.
The Special Investigation Headquarters for Emergency Martial Law of the Prosecutor's Office (Head: Park Se-hyun, Seoul High Prosecutors' Office Chief Prosecutor) announced on the 28th that it has indicted nine individuals, including Lee Sang-hyun, Commander of the 1st Airborne Special Forces Brigade, Kim Hyun-tae, Commander of the 707th Special Mission Unit, and Mok Hyun-tae, former Chief of the National Assembly Security Unit, without detention on charges of engaging in important duties of rebellion and abuse of official authority. They are accused of participating in three major core riot acts aimed at disrupting the constitutional order: blockade and infiltration of the National Assembly, joint arrest squads targeting anti-state forces, and occupation of the Central Election Management Committee and arrest of its staff.
Specifically, regarding the blockade and infiltration of the National Assembly, Lee Sang-hyun, Commander of the 1st Airborne Special Forces Brigade, Kim Hyun-tae, Commander of the 707th Special Mission Unit, and Mok Hyun-tae, former Chief of the National Assembly Security Unit, were indicted. Concerning the operation of arrest squads, Kim Dae-woo, Head of the Counterintelligence Investigation Division of the Republic of Korea Army Counterintelligence Command, Yoon Seung-young, Investigation Planning Coordinator of the National Investigation Headquarters of the National Police Agency, and Park Heon-su, Director of the Ministry of National Defense Investigation Headquarters, were indicted. Regarding the occupation of the Election Commission and arrest of its staff, Ko Dong-hee, Planning Director of the Intelligence Command, Kim Bong-gyu, Chief of the Central News Unit of the Intelligence Command, and Jung Sung-wook, Commander of the 2nd Operations Unit of the 100th Brigade of the Intelligence Command, were brought to trial.
