Discussion on Transition to Dae-Ja-Bo City
and Greenhouse Gas Reduction

Gwangju Transportation Corporation (President Cho Ikmun) announced on the 28th that it held a policy forum on the 27th at its headquarters in Mareuk-dong, Seo-gu, co-hosted with the Gwangju Sustainable Development Council, to discuss the transition to a “Dae-Ja-Bo (Public Transportation, Bicycle, Pedestrian) City Gwangju.”
This policy forum was organized to build consensus on the need to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and promote the use of green transportation in the era of climate crisis, as well as to seek efficient introduction and operation of BRT (Bus Rapid Transit) systems and sustainable public transportation revitalization strategies.
More than 80 participants, including officials from Gwangju City, Gwangju Eco Bike, Gwangju Institute, and other public transportation-related organizations and citizens, attended the forum. The event featured presentations on topics such as the BRT operation plan for Gwangju City, analysis of successful BRT cases in other regions, and policy improvement measures. This was followed by heated discussions on various ways to enhance the effectiveness of BRT.
In particular, participating organizations emphasized the need to solve Gwangju's transportation problems and revitalize public transportation. They agreed on the importance of thoroughly analyzing BRT operation cases from other regions to enhance the completeness of policy implementation.
An official from the corporation stated, "We were able to listen to a variety of opinions from citizens and related organizations regarding the introduction of BRT suitable for local conditions and environment," and added, "We ask for the active interest of citizens in transitioning from a car-centered city to an eco-friendly public transportation city."
Meanwhile, the corporation is conducting various policy research and development projects to transition Gwangju into a Dae-Ja-Bo city and establish an eco-friendly transportation system, and plans to continue its active efforts to revitalize local public transportation in the future.
