Gwangyang City: "Feel Safe Drinking Tap Water"

Safe Tap Water Verification System Offered Free of Charge All Year Round

Gwangyang City in Jeollanam-do announced on the 28th that it will operate the 'Safe Tap Water Verification System' free of charge throughout the year, allowing citizens to safely drink tap water with peace of mind.

The 'Safe Tap Water Verification System' is a program where citizens who wish to check the quality of their tap water can apply via phone or the internet. A responsible public official then visits the site to conduct a free inspection, and detailed results are provided to the applicant within 15 days either by mail or online.

The inspection covers six items: pH, turbidity, residual chlorine, iron, copper, and zinc. These serve as indicators to check for any changes in water quality and ensure safety as tap water is supplied from the purification plant through water pipes to households. If the results do not meet the drinking water quality standards, an additional seven items are tested: general bacteria, total coliforms, chloride ions, ammonium nitrogen, manganese, color, and others.

Last year, Gwangyang City conducted water quality inspections under the Safe Tap Water Verification System at over 70 locations, with all results found to be suitable. The results were then notified to the citizens who requested the service.

Kim Yongsik, head of the Waterworks Division of Gwangyang City, said, "To alleviate concerns and provide reliable tap water to Gwangyang citizens, we are not only operating the 'Safe Tap Water Verification System' but also conducting daily, weekly, and monthly water quality tests. The results are disclosed daily on the National Waterworks Information System and the Gwangyang City Hall website, so please rest assured. If you are curious about the quality of your household tap water, we encourage you to apply for an inspection at any time."
