Gyeonggi Province will expand the support criteria for child care opportunity income starting from March to spread the ecosystem of community care culture.
Child care opportunity income is a project that supports the creation of social value by care communities to eliminate blind spots in child care, which was first launched in July last year.
Gyeonggi Province has newly established a criterion to provide 100,000 KRW for 15 hours of activity per month, along with the existing method of providing 200,000 KRW for 30 hours of activity per month. The maximum number of supported members per care community has also increased from 5 to 7.

This system improvement reflects opinions from the field. Although the goal of 100 participating communities was exceeded, the average monthly number of beneficiaries was only 200, half of the target (500). This was because the single standard of 30 hours per month could not meet the diverse care demands in the field.
Following the expansion of the payment criteria, Gyeonggi Province will also promote simplification of the application process, increase publicity, and improve the system through on-site monitoring. Through this, it is expected that more members of care communities will benefit from child care opportunity income.
Gong Jeong-sik, Director of the Social Innovation Economy Bureau of Gyeonggi Province, said, "There were people who could not apply for opportunity income because they did not reach 30 hours per month despite actually engaging in child care activities," adding, "This will help sustain various care activities suited to local circumstances, such as gap care and emergency care."
