Trump: "10% Additional Tariffs on China from March 4... Mexico and Canada Also as Scheduled"

On the 27th (local time), President Trump posted on his social networking service (SNS) Truth Social, which he created, saying, "Drugs are still pouring into our country from Mexico and Canada at very high and unacceptable levels. Much of these drugs are manufactured and supplied from China in the form of fentanyl."

He added, "More than 100,000 people died last year due to the distribution of these dangerous and highly addictive toxic substances, and millions have died over the past 20 years. The families of the victims have been plunged into grief and, in many cases, have been virtually destroyed."

President Trump said, "We cannot allow this disaster to continue harming the United States," and "The tariffs scheduled to take effect on March 4 will indeed be implemented as planned until this disaster stops or is seriously limited." He also stated, "China will likewise be subject to an additional 10% tariff on that day."

Earlier, President Trump announced on February 4 that a 25% tariff would be imposed on Mexico and Canada, and an additional 10% tariff on China. After Mexico and Canada agreed to cooperate in cracking down on fentanyl and illegal immigration, the tariffs on the two countries were postponed for one month on the 3rd, one day before the tariffs were to take effect. However, the 10% additional tariff on China was implemented as scheduled, and now he has expressed the intention to raise it by another 10%, imposing a total additional tariff of 20%.

Regarding the reciprocal tariff measures scheduled to take effect on April 2, President Trump said, "The date remains valid," indicating that they will be implemented as planned.
