77 Million Won in Compensation Missing
Police Launch Investigation
There are allegations that a lawyer representing a class action lawsuit over noise damage from the Gwangju military airport has embezzled part of the compensation money.
According to the legal community on the 27th, residents of Seo-gu, Gwangju, filed a police complaint against lawyer A on charges of embezzlement. After winning the lawsuit over military airport noise damage, lawyer A received the compensation from the government on behalf of the plaintiffs.
The complainants claimed, "After receiving the compensation in May last year, lawyer A did not pay part of it to the clients."
More than 230 people participated in the lawsuit, and 65 of them have submitted complaints. The amount they have not received totals about 77 million won.
The Dongbu Police Station in Gwangju has received the case and is investigating the details. The Gwangju Bar Association has also received a petition and is verifying the facts.
