"The development of the Fall Prevention 9988 app was driven by the hope that elderly people can live long and healthy lives. With the help of artificial intelligence (AI), we want seniors to maintain their health even in old age."

Founded in 2016, Happy Aging develops solutions to prevent falls among middle-aged and elderly people and manufactures and sells fall prevention products directly. In 2019, it was certified as a social enterprise by the Ministry of Employment and Labor.

Kwon Kyunghyuk, the CEO who founded Happy Aging, was formerly a marketing research analyst. He entered the unfamiliar field of fall prevention after his mother experienced a fall. Realizing the dangers of falls and the need for prevention led him to establish Happy Aging.

The fall prevention business is unfamiliar to the general public. However, according to CEO Kwon, it requires systematic solutions and is very important. Seemingly minor factors such as floor sheets, bathroom tiles, and furniture inside the home can become risk factors that cause falls. Additionally, middle-aged and elderly people who suffer injuries from falls have lower recovery resilience due to aging. The aftermath of fall injuries can lead to more serious illnesses.

Last year, Happy Aging introduced the fall prevention solution app "Fall Prevention 9988," which combines AI technology. It is a service that analyzes the risk of falls and provides preventive solutions for people aged 70 and older. The app is available for free on Android smartphones.

When seniors input information such as their living environment and physical condition into the Fall Prevention 9988 app, AI analyzes it to diagnose the risk of falling. Based on the values entered through the in-app survey, the app guides users on fall risk in three stages (relatively safe, risky, very risky). The AI also prepares and provides a report summarizing risk factors and solutions based on the input information.

The core AI service utilizes OpenAI's GPT model. About 2,000 data points measuring fall risk were trained on the AI model through machine learning, enabling the AI to diagnose and analyze fall risks. The AI is also responsible for creating the risk analysis report and summarizing its contents.

Recently, work has been underway to add photo analysis functionality to the risk analysis. When users upload photos of their home, the AI automatically diagnoses risk factors and suggests solutions. This feature is expected to be officially added as early as next month.

CEO Kwon explained that the accuracy of risk factor analysis has greatly improved through AI. Since AI makes judgments by synthesizing various information, it can detect risk factors that are not visible to the naked eye. For example, the AI analyzes indoor lighting brightness and diagnoses the risk of falling due to dim lighting. CEO Kwon said, "Even we, who have been running the business for 10 years, have problems that we never thought of, but AI analyzes and suggests solutions," adding, "Those who have received the risk assessment results say that it is both reasonable and highly accurate."
