Changwon Special City in Gyeongnam is strengthening surveillance of wildfire-prone areas due to a dry weather advisory.

Accordingly, on the 27th, Hong Nampyo, Mayor of Changwon Special City, visited wildfire prevention sites to inspect the spring wildfire response posture as the wildfire risk index increased due to the continued dry weather.

On that day, Mayor Hong visited Gamgye-ri and Masan-ri in Buk-myeon, received reports on the deployment of wildfire watchers and major prevention activities, and thoroughly checked the response system in case of wildfire occurrence with related departments. Emphasizing that early response is crucial in wildfires, he stressed establishing an on-site response posture to enable immediate firefighting measures in emergencies.

Despite the cold weather, he encouraged the wildfire watchers who are working hard on wildfire prevention, reminded them to manage their personal health and be cautious about safety accidents, and carefully inspected the wildfire watchtowers to see if there were any difficulties in their duties.

Mayor Hong said, “Since 70% of the wildfires that occurred in our city over the past three years happened in spring, we will prioritize citizen safety and thoroughly establish a response posture to focus administrative efforts on wildfire prevention.”

He added, “As the dry weather continues these days, even a small mistake or negligence can lead to a large wildfire, so special attention is needed for wildfire prevention. We also ask citizens to comply with wildfire prevention rules, such as refraining from burning activities in forests.”

Meanwhile, Changwon Special City is expanding the operation of the spring wildfire countermeasures headquarters to strengthen surveillance and prevention publicity activities in areas adjacent to mountains, and is making every effort to prevent wildfires by establishing a response system that enables helicopters and firefighting personnel to arrive at the site within the optimal time for firefighting operations in case of wildfire occurrence.
