2025 Uljin Snow Crab and Red Snow Crab Festival
to Be Held at Hupo Port, the Hometown of Snow Crabs,
from February 28 to March 3
Uljin-gun, Gyeongbuk Province, will hold the ‘2025 Uljin Snow Crab and Red Snow Crab Festival’ from February 28 to March 3 at Wangdolcho Square in Hupo Port, the hometown of snow crabs in Uljin-gun.
Hosted by Uljin-gun and organized by the Uljin Festival Development Committee, this festival is expected to attract around 50,000 participants over four days following the opening of the Donghae Line. It will welcome tourists with a variety of events that not only involve local residents but also cater to visitors of all ages.
On the first day, the festival will kick off with a performance by a local acoustic guitar club, followed by performances by local singers and an event match of the 5th Uljin Snow Crab National Open Table Tennis Tournament. Additionally, the preliminary round of the nationwide Pumba contest, held specially for this festival, will entertain tourists with laughter and fun.
On the second day, the festival’s signature program, the crab rope-pulling competition between towns and townships involving local residents, will take place. There will also be a bubble magic show for child visitors and a random play dance with popular YouTuber Dancing Bear to enliven the festival grounds. Starting at 5:30 PM, the official opening ceremony will begin, featuring the Uljin Snow Crab flash mob performance and celebratory performances by popular singer Lee Chan-won and Punggeum, raising the festival’s atmosphere to a high point.
On the third day, the finals of the nationwide Pumba performance contest will be held, followed by bubble magic shows and busking performances. The festival’s signature program, the crab marinated rice bowl performance, will offer tourists a chance to enjoy free tastings. On the final day, the festival will conclude with performances by local artists and a closing ceremony.
Every day, visitors can participate in red snow crab fishing experiences and Uljin snow crab auction programs. There will also be a seafood mutual discount coupon event and a chance to purchase premium red snow crab steamed dishes at a 50% discount, providing an opportunity to enjoy snow crabs and red snow crabs at affordable prices directly from the production area.
Other popular experiential events include the annual favorite yacht boarding experience, a cruise ship tour between Hupo and Ulleung on February 28 and March 2, and an indoor tour of a naval warship on March 1, offering tourists special enjoyment.
With the opening of the Donghae Line, access to Uljin snow crabs and red snow crabs will become even easier. During the festival period, two additional trains will be added to the schedule stopping at Hupo Station, increasing the total to 14 trains per day. Shuttle buses will operate between Hupo Station and the festival site, as well as between Hupo Marina Port and the festival site, providing convenience for tourists.
