This international seminar was conducted using funding from the international joint research project of the Biomedical Research Institute at Pusan National University Hospital, based on achievements from visits to two Japanese aging research institutes in 2024.

In particular, alongside Pusan National University's ongoing Glocal University project, the seminar served as a platform for communication by collaborating with global research networks to share studies on healthy aging and the improvement of elderly welfare. Attendees included aging researchers from Pusan National University and Pusan National University Hospital, healthcare-related companies, and professionals from related organizations and the medical community in the Busan area.

At the event, under the theme of ‘Elderly and Aging,’ Dr. Lee Sang-yoon from Japan’s leading aging research institute, the National Center for Geriatrics and Gerontology, and Dr. Sasai Hiroyuki from the Tokyo Metropolitan Institute for Geriatrics and Gerontology were invited to present intervention strategies for frailty, sarcopenia, and dementia prevention.

Additionally, Professor Liao Yung from National Taiwan Normal University introduced the optimal timing for improving physical and sedentary activities in the elderly and their correlation with physical functions.

The Biomedical Specialized Headquarters at Pusan National University is striving to enhance research on healthy aging and elderly welfare in collaboration with global research networks. They plan to continue supporting this through cohort and life care research projects aimed at improving and preventing geriatric diseases, as well as hosting seminars featuring renowned speakers.

As Busan enters a super-aged society (where the population aged 65 and over accounts for more than 20% of the total), these activities by Pusan National University are expected to play a crucial role in improving the quality of life for the elderly, establishing a healthy aging model, and developing Busan into a leading city in responding to population aging.
