Completed Installation at 10 Locations Including Songjeong Elementary School
On the 27th, Icheon City in Gyeonggi Province announced that it will establish smart crosswalks in 10 school zones within the city, including Songjeong Elementary School, ahead of the new school term and begin operation starting next month.

Smart crosswalks are equipped with a 'red remaining time indicator,' 'runway-type road studs,' and a 'pedestrian signal automatic extension system' to protect vulnerable road users such as children and reduce traffic accidents. Last year, the city was selected for Gyeonggi Province's 'School Zone Smart Crosswalk Installation Project' and built the related systems.
In particular, the pedestrian signal automatic extension system using AI video detection technology was introduced at the crosswalks at Songjeong Elementary and Middle School Intersection, Anheung Elementary School Intersection, and in front of Daewoo 1st Apartment near Jeungpo Elementary School. If vulnerable road users such as children cannot cross the crosswalk within the pedestrian signal time, the pedestrian signal will be extended by up to 5 seconds.
An official from Icheon City stated, "We will continue to actively discover smart traffic systems utilizing new technologies to create a safe walking environment."
