Illegal Extension, Reconstruction, and Failure to Comply with Lashing Guidelines
Mokpo Maritime Police Station (Chief Kwon Oseong) announced on the 27th that it is conducting a special crackdown on safety violations, such as illegal extension or reconstruction of vessels and failure to comply with lashing guidelines, for about two months until April 16.
This special crackdown has been planned as a preventive measure against maritime accidents in connection with the recent series of vessel incidents and the issuance of a 'Special Maritime Safety Alert.'
This special crackdown, which is being carried out concurrently with the ongoing winter maritime safety crackdown that began last November, will focus on ▲illegal extension or reconstruction ▲overloading of passengers ▲failure to comply with lashing guidelines ▲violation of crew standards ▲violation of navigation area regulations ▲failure to undergo vessel inspections ▲drunk navigation, among others.
Kim Hwanggyun, head of the Investigation Division, stated, "Recently, frequent maritime accidents have occurred due to strong seasonal winds and high waves," and urged, "Please comply with the relevant laws and regulations."
