Korean Air Selected as a '5-Star Airline' by UK Skytrax for 5 Consecutive Years

Skytrax is a UK-based aviation consulting and evaluation organization established in London in 1989. Since 1999, it has comprehensively assessed service elements of airlines worldwide every year and assigned ratings from a minimum of 1 star to 5 stars. This time, 10 airlines including Korean Air received 5 stars.

The evaluation was conducted over two weeks starting from the end of October last year using the 'mystery shopper' method. Three Skytrax inspectors personally used Korean Air flights on seven routes, checking the quality of all customer-facing services. The evaluation criteria included over 550 items such as check-in and transfers, airport facilities like lounges, in-flight meals, in-flight amenities and services, in-flight entertainment (IFE), aircraft seats, and baggage handling.

Korean Air received high marks for its user-friendly website layout, passenger and cargo systems, high-quality in-flight meals, beverage services including carefully selected wines, pre-ordering function for in-flight meals, and in-flight entertainment system.

It was also evaluated for maintaining a comfortable and clean cabin environment across all seat classes including First, Prestige, and Economy. The cabin crew’s friendly and courteous service in all seat classes and their efficient and consistent service minimizing passenger inconvenience were also positive evaluation factors.

Edward Plaisted, CEO of Skytrax, said, "Korean Air’s selection as a 5-star airline is proof of its continuous efforts to provide a high-level customer experience," adding, "They deliver excellent service in all areas including comfortable cabins and in-flight meals, achieving outstanding results."

Korean Air’s relentless efforts to improve customer service quality have been recognized both domestically and internationally. Last year, it became the first domestic airline to receive the Consumer-Centered Management (CCM) certification for the third consecutive time, and it has earned the 5-star rating for eight consecutive years in the global airline industry evaluator APEX’s 'Official Airline Ratings.'
