Honoring the Achievements Ahead of the 106th Anniversary of the March 1st Movement

Yeonggwang County in Jeollanam-do announced on the 27th that, ahead of the 106th anniversary of the March 1st Movement, it visited the families of independence patriots in the area to offer consolation and paid respects at the graves of militia leader Kim Yonggu and militia member Kim Gibong in Hwapyeong-ri, Daema-myeon on the 26th.
Militia leader Kim Yonggu formed the Honam Changui Hoemaengso and led militia activities as the regional president. His son, militia member Kim Gibong, followed in his father's footsteps, encouraging militia movements throughout the provinces, and fought against Japanese forces in Yeonggwang, Jangseong, Hampyeong, and Gochang. Both father and son, who were from Yeonggwang, became independence patriots who died for their country during the anti-Japanese movement.
This visit to the graves of independence patriots was conducted together with the Jeonnam Western Patriots and Veterans Affairs Office to honor the sacrifice and dedication of the region's representative independence patriots ahead of the 80th anniversary of Liberation and the 106th anniversary of the March 1st Movement.
The event was attended by Yeonggwang County Governor Jang Seil, Jeonnam Western Patriots and Veterans Affairs Office Director Lee Hyangsuk, Jeollanam-do branch head of the Liberation Association Song Injeong, representatives of the bereaved families, and local residents.
Governor Jang Seil stated, "Through this visit to the graves of independence patriots, we once again reflect on the meaning of Liberation and the March 1st Movement, and express our deep gratitude to the patriotic martyrs and independence activists who gave everything for the country. The sacrifices of independence patriots and their families made today's Republic of Korea and our existence possible, and we will continue to do our best to honor and support them."
Meanwhile, on the same day, Yeonggwang County visited the office of the Yeonggwang branch of the Liberation Association and met with the families of the late Lee Gangbok, the late Kim Junheon, the late Seo Soonchae, and the late Yoo Duyeop?independence patriots from Yeonggwang?to honor the achievements of the patriotic martyrs who fought for the restoration of national sovereignty, and delivered gifts of appreciation and respect.
