Ranked First Among 82 Counties Nationwide
Outstanding in 10 Out of 11 Indicators
Geochang-gun, Gyeongnam Province announced on the 27th that it was selected as the Best Institution in the ‘2024 Local Government Innovation Evaluation’ hosted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety.
The Local Government Innovation Evaluation assesses the efforts and achievements for innovation of 243 local governments nationwide (17 metropolitan and 226 basic local governments). In 2024, the evaluation covers 11 indicators including ▲innovation leadership of heads of institutions ▲discovery and response to policy tasks for future generations ▲field-centered communication to solve public livelihood issues ▲improvement of resident services and elimination of administrative blind spots ▲innovation in working methods and organizational culture improvement ▲service improvement using digital technology, selecting 4 best institutions and 57 excellent institutions.
In this evaluation, Geochang-gun achieved the remarkable feat of ranking first among 82 counties nationwide and was selected as the ‘Best Institution.’ This achievement is the best result in the history of innovation evaluations, proving that the innovative administration of Geochang-gun under the 8th elected government is at the highest level nationwide.
In particular, the establishment of Geochang Senior County, a public dementia-specialized elderly care facility, received high scores in the public perception category for providing welfare services responding to aging and being a resident-experienced project utilizing an abandoned closed school. Customized policies for youth, designation as a ‘Youth-Friendly City,’ the foreign seasonal worker system to eliminate administrative blind spots, and the public-private cooperative children’s shared refrigerator ‘Kkureogi Cheonsa Jeombang’ also received favorable evaluations.
Additionally, key projects such as completing the east-west-north-south tourism belt to utilize abundant forest resources and achieve a living population of one million, establishing a cremation facility in Geochang-gun, and creating the Geochang-type medical welfare town were evaluated as excellent future policies responding to local extinction.
Excellent results were also achieved in the indicators for innovation in working methods and organizational culture improvement. Various efforts to streamline work procedures and foster a flexible organizational culture, such as operating the 2nd term of the Geochang-gun innovation group ‘Innovation Avengers,’ running the employee convenience platform ‘Soso Convenience Store,’ expanding the application of Robotic Process Automation (RPA), holding knowledge administration activation contests, and promoting organizational culture improvement campaigns, received good scores.
Governor Gu In-mo stated, “Thanks to the communication and joint efforts with residents to improve welfare and quality of life and efficiently operate administration, we were able to achieve good results,” adding, “We will continue to lead the way in creating a greater leap for Geochang and an era of happiness for residents by implementing innovative administration that residents can feel.”
