Korea National Oil Corporation President Kim Dong-seop Conducts On-site Safety Management at Donghae Storage Base

Inspection of Safety Management and Disaster Response Systems During the Thawing Season
Emphasizing the Importance of On-Site Safety Management and Inspections, Ensuring a Stable Oil Supply System

Kim Dong-seop, President of Korea National Oil Corporation, visited the East Coast Storage Base on the 26th to conduct on-site safety management to prevent accidents during the thawing season.

During the spring thaw, as the frozen ground melts, risks such as soil erosion, road damage, and facility subsidence increase, making proactive safety inspections of facilities necessary. Additionally, due to the dry weather, the risk of wildfires is heightened, so it is also important to check the disaster response system for natural disasters.

President Kim Dong-seop checked the implementation status of safety management for key facilities such as product tanks and truck loading/unloading docks within the storage base, and emphasized the importance of accident prevention activities and thorough inspections during a meeting with employees.

At this occasion, President Kim stated, “Safety is not a matter for compromise, and on-site practice is above all important.”

The Korea National Oil Corporation operates oil storage bases in nine regions nationwide and stores about 100 million barrels of strategic reserves to prepare for emergencies such as domestic oil supply crises. This amount can supply the country for approximately 115 days in case of an emergency.

President Kim Dong-seop’s recent on-site safety management is the second such inspection conducted this year, following the winter safety inspection at the Yeosu Storage Base earlier this year.

President Kim emphasized that, given the increasing uncertainty in the energy market which could destabilize oil supply, thorough safety inspections and accident prevention at storage bases are the first steps toward energy security.
