Urges Withdrawal of Party Defections in Statement on the 26th

People Power Party Chungnam Provincial Committee: "Leaving the Party Over Nomination Disputes Betrays the Expectations of Asan Citizens"

The Chungnam Provincial Party of the People Power Party stated on the 26th, "Leaving the party in protest of the nomination results is not only a betrayal of the expectations of Asan citizens, but also an act that endangers the Republic of Korea."

On this day, the Chungnam Provincial Party issued a statement in the afternoon, urging preliminary candidates and some supporters who were dissatisfied with the nomination results and submitted withdrawal forms to join the Free Unification Party to reconsider their actions.

They said, "The Asan mayoral by-election to be held on April 2 is taking place during an extraordinary time, following the declaration of martial law last December and the ongoing impeachment proceedings against the president," adding, "If we win the by-election, President Yoon Sukyeol will be able to significantly regain his political momentum."

They continued, "Those who welcome division are likely the Democratic Party and its leader Lee Jaemyung," and added, "It will be hard for them to hide their joy at the sight of conservatives splitting themselves."

They further pointed out, "With about one month left until the by-election, some candidates and supporters dissatisfied with the nomination process are submitting withdrawal forms or joining other parties," and emphasized, "This is not only a betrayal of the expectations of Asan citizens, but also an act that makes the Republic of Korea even more vulnerable."

Meanwhile, Kim Kwangman, a preliminary candidate who had expressed his intention to run as a member of the People Power Party, has completed his registration as a preliminary candidate after receiving the nomination from the Free Unification Party. It is also known that Lee Gyosik, Yoo Gijun, and Kim Jingu, all former preliminary candidates, have submitted withdrawal forms and joined him.
