50 Billion Won to Be Invested Over Three Years in Wharf and Shared Workspace Construction
Jung Myeong-geun: "We Will Improve Working Conditions and Revitalize Fishing Villages"
Hwaseong City in Gyeonggi Province announced on the 26th that Songgyohang in Seosin-myeon has been selected for the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries' '2025 Fisheries Village New Vitality Promotion Project.'
This project is an initiative by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries to revitalize declining fishing villages by investing 3 trillion won in a total of 300 fishing villages over five years from 2023 to 2027.
Songgyohang was selected this year in the 'Fishing Village Safety Infrastructure Improvement' category. The infrastructure improvement category aims to create a safe fishing environment by upgrading essential fishing facilities and safety facilities in residential fishing ports and small harbors. Among fishing villages in Gyeonggi Province, Songgyohang was the only one selected in this year's competition.
The city plans to invest a total of 5 billion won, including 3.5 billion won in national funds secured through this selection, to build a wharf and a shared workspace for fishing activities around Songgyohang by 2027. In addition, the city will carry out improvements to aging port environments and safety facilities, such as repairing fishing grounds access roads and docks. The city will start the basic planning and preliminary permit review this month and aims to complete the project by 2027.
With this selection, the city will promote fisheries village and port regeneration projects in five ports within the province, the most in the region, following Baekmihang in 2019, Gohang and Gukhwahang in 2020, and Maehyanghang in 2023.
Jung Myeong-geun, mayor of Hwaseong City, said, "Songgyohang is one of Hwaseong's representative fishing ports, not only having the largest fishing port area in the city but also boasting a clean mudflat fishing ground rich in marine products. We will do our best to ensure that fishermen can operate with peace of mind."
