Lee Jun-seok: "If Yoon's solution had come 6 months earlier, it would have shown sincerity"

"It Seems Close to a Desperate Measure"

Lee Jun-seok, a lawmaker from the Reform New Party, said on the 26th about President Yoon Seok-yeol's final statement, "If the countermeasures or alternatives had come out just six months earlier, I think the public would have accepted them much more sincerely."

After a meeting with reporters at the Samsung C&T noise research center 'Raemian Goyo安 LAB' located in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province, Lee made these remarks. He evaluated President Yoon's final statement by saying, "Wasn't it a final statement reminding us to do well while we can and to do well while things are going smoothly?" and added, "At this point, what the president said does not come across as straightforward."

He continued, "I feel it is close to a desperate measure, and on the other hand, I wonder what kind of reflections the president had during the recent period when he was freed from state affairs and had ample time for contemplation, and how such reflections only strengthened mistaken beliefs."

Lee questioned, "From the moment he was elected, those who criticized (President Yoon) probably did so to urge him to do better, and those who supported him probably gave him strength to do better, so isn't this situation a result of constantly doubting those intentions?"

He said, "While one cannot be fully satisfied with what the president has done, whether satisfied or not, each person's words were likely for the sake of the Republic of Korea," and evaluated, "Doubting that sincerity seems to lead to different kinds of statements."

Lee added, "I wished the president had spoken sincerely to those who feel regretful in his final statement, but it was unfortunate that he did not allocate time for that the day before."

Earlier, President Yoon, during the 11th hearing held at the Constitutional Court the previous afternoon, said in his final statement, "It was a martial law for the nation and the people, but I sincerely apologize for causing confusion and inconvenience to the precious citizens during the process."
