Highly Praised for Originality and Historical Significance
Plans to Grow into a Global Festival
Mokpo City, Jeollanam-do (Mayor Park Hongryul) announced on the 26th that the 2024 Mokpo Port Festival received the Grand Prize in the Cultural Heritage and History category at the 13th Korea Festival Contents Awards held on the 25th.
The Korea Festival Contents Awards, selected by the Korea Festival Contents Association, comprehensively evaluates festivals held in the previous year that have contributed to regional development or have high potential for growth. The evaluation criteria include festival outcomes, visitor awareness and satisfaction, local resident support, content uniqueness, safety management systems, and contributions to the local community.

In particular, the Mokpo Port Festival, recognized as the only port festival in Korea themed around the maritime fish market Pasi, received high marks for its originality and historical significance.
The Mokpo Port Festival has not only been designated as a '2024-2025 Culture and Tourism Festival' by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, but has also been selected as the '2025 Jeollanam-do Representative Top Festival.' With this latest award, it is establishing itself as a representative festival of Korea.
The 2025 Mokpo Port Festival is scheduled to be held from September 26 to 28. To develop it into a global festival beyond being a representative festival of Jeollanam-do, various contents including the maritime fish market Pasi will be further developed.
Mayor Park Hongryul stated, "I am pleased that the Mokpo Port Festival has achieved such meaningful results thanks to the passion and efforts of our citizens," and added, "For this year's festival, we will do our utmost to further highlight the tradition of Pasi and showcase the unique charm of our port city."
