The Korea Green Climate Awards, hosted by the National Assembly Climate Change Forum, is the first comprehensive climate change award in Korea established in 2010 to encourage organizations with significant contributions to climate change response and the promotion of a sustainable carbon-neutral society across seven fields including public sector, diplomacy, education, and media, and to spread exemplary cases.

Taebaek City received the Excellence Award in the Local Government category for its progressive and outstanding large-scale projects with significant carbon reduction effects, such as converting abandoned mining areas into eco-friendly ship fuel production sites (Clean Methanol Production Base Construction Project), wind power development projects, and forest timber cluster construction projects, reflecting creative climate change response plans tailored to local conditions.

Mayor Lee Sang-ho of Taebaek City stated, “Taebaek City will continue to promote various clean energy projects utilizing local characteristics and conditions in response to climate change,” and added, “We will do our best to become a ‘carbon-free clean energy city’ achieving carbon neutrality and sustainable development.”

Meanwhile, the National Assembly Climate Change Forum was established to develop national policies for climate change response and to promote nationwide practical actions, with participation from members of the National Assembly as well as various sectors including industry and academia.
