The Only Non-Metropolitan Hospital...
"Highest Reputation as a Cancer Specialty Hospital"
Hwasun Chonnam National University Hospital (Director: Min Jeongjun) announced on the 26th that it received the highest Grade 1 rating in the first evaluation of the second cycle for colorectal, gastric, and lung cancer adequacy, recently released by the Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service.
This evaluation of the three major cancers was conducted for one year, from July 2022 to June 2023, targeting inpatients aged 18 or older who underwent surgery, chemotherapy, or radiation therapy for primary colorectal, gastric, or lung cancer.
The institutions evaluated included 165 hospitals for colorectal cancer, 146 for gastric cancer, and 106 for lung cancer, all of which provided cancer treatment and claimed medical expenses.
Hwasun Chonnam National University Hospital received Grade 1 in all indicators, including ▲composition of specialized personnel ▲multidisciplinary care rate for cancer patients ▲rate of surgery within 30 days after cancer diagnosis ▲rate of severe cases among surgical patients ▲implementation rate of patient education and counseling ▲surgical mortality rate ▲readmission rate within 30 days after discharge following surgery.
Since the beginning of the adequacy evaluations, Hwasun Chonnam National University Hospital has continuously achieved Grade 1 ratings for colorectal, gastric, and lung cancer, maintaining its reputation as a top cancer hospital.
In particular, the hospital solidified its status as a leading cancer surgery center nationwide, recording 840 colorectal cancer cases (national average: 126, advanced general hospitals: 310), 749 gastric cancer cases (national average: 161, advanced general hospitals: 398), and 817 lung cancer cases (national average: 203, advanced general hospitals: 371) per institution.
The hospital's cancer treatment capabilities are also evident through its world-class, personalized multidisciplinary care system at its specialized cancer center. From simple diagnoses to complex treatments, it provides optimal care to patients through outstanding multidisciplinary collaboration.
Multidisciplinary collaboration involves specialists from various departments meeting directly with patients and caregivers to determine the best treatment method. In October last year, the hospital achieved its 1,500th multidisciplinary consultation for lung cancer.
Director Min Jeongjun stated, "Hwasun Chonnam National University Hospital is the only non-metropolitan hospital in Korea to be named one of the 'World's Best Cancer Hospitals' by Newsweek in the United States. This marks the fifth consecutive year and ranks eighth in Korea. We are proud to be the only regional cancer hospital to have succeeded in changing the perception that 'cancer must be treated in Seoul.' We will continue to do our best to provide high-quality medical services."
