President Kwon Jin-hoe quoted the Song Dynasty Chinese Confucian scholar Zhu Xi’s saying, “Youth is easily lost, but learning is hard to achieve; do not waste even a moment,” in his degree conferment speech, stating, “In the newly unfolding world of infinite knowledge and the vast arena of boundless wisdom, perhaps you are still young,” and urged, “Do not waste a moment of your life; keep learning continuously.”
He continued, “Our university’s motto is 'Pioneering' (開拓),” adding, “Pioneering is the courage to walk a path no one has taken before and the wisdom to create something no one has ever thought of. Always remember this pioneering spirit and strive to put it into practice.”
President Kwon encouraged the graduates by saying, “Pioneers do not give up and constantly challenge themselves. Challenges are a process of accumulating energy,” and “As you walk the path of life, whether in employment, entrepreneurship, or research, even if you do not succeed at first, remember that you have accumulated energy through the experience and gather strength to challenge again. When that energy finally reaches a critical point, your dreams will become reality.”
