224 Suggestions and Proposals Submitted from Towns and Townships
"I Like Yeongam" Campaign Draws Attention
Yeongam County, Jeollanam-do (Governor Woo Seunghee) announced on the 25th that it has concluded the “2025 Innovation Empathy Dialogue with Residents,” which was held in each town and township under the slogan “The Flower of Innovation, Bearing Fruit,” with its final session in Miam-myeon on the 24th.
This dialogue with residents was organized as a platform for communication, where the direction of county administration and major tasks for this year were reported, and residents’ opinions were collected.
A total of 224 suggestions and proposals were submitted by residents during the event. Breaking them down by region: Yeongam-eup 14, Samho-eup 26, Deokjin-myeon 12, Geumjeong-myeon 11, Sinbuk-myeon 28, Sijong-myeon 18, Dobo-myeon 14, Gunseo-myeon 32, Seho-myeon 33, Haksan-myeon 20, and Miam-myeon 16.

Main topics included maintenance of rivers and embankments damaged by flooding last year, expansion of village roads and farm roads, as well as ▲creation of a cypress forest at Cheonhwangsa Mul-tong Street ▲installation of a fig farming byproduct shredding facility ▲proposal for the Daecheondong Cultural Project ▲creation of a park at the birthplace of Daebong persimmon ▲measures to encourage the expansion of alternative crops ▲maintenance of historical relics such as Sojeonmeori Hwangjangsaeng and Youngsaebulmangbi in Gunseo-myeon ▲creation of seasonal attractions in each town and township ▲Hak-themed Haksan riverside park, among others.
In his report on the direction and key initiatives of county administration, Governor Woo Seunghee presented eight major strategies tailored to Yeongam County and unique to its context in the glocal era: ▲Youth Vitality City ▲Dalbit Ecological Culture City ▲Regional Circulation Economy ▲Energy Transition ▲Agricultural Policy Transition ▲Value-oriented Welfare, among others.
He also explained the tight fiscal situation caused by the central government’s reduction of local allocation tax, emphasizing that residents’ understanding and cooperation are essential to create a sustainable and desirable Yeongam in the midst of these challenges.
During the dialogue, booths displaying processed agricultural specialty products from Yeongam were set up inside and outside the venue, offering residents opportunities for tasting and sampling. The event also featured a screening of Yeongam’s oral folktale (Geumma Prince and Wolchulsan Lady), produced using generative AI, which received an enthusiastic response.
Before the event, the “I Like Yeongam” campaign was held to promote Yeongam’s food, attractions, and leisure activities, and to foster a community spirit of innovation. Residents from each town and township participated by watching the campaign video, taking commemorative photos, and chanting slogans together.
Governor Woo Seunghee stated, “The suggestions and proposals made during the dialogue with residents are innovation itself,” and added, “Let us inherit the DNA of creativity and innovation from our proud local ancestors and work together to build Yeongam into a vibrant and attractive international city that overcomes the risk of local extinction.”
