Support for Infertility Treatment and Medical Expenses for High-Risk Pregnant Women
Seo-gu, Gwangju City announced on the 25th that it will significantly expand its pregnancy and childbirth support programs starting this year.
Seo-gu is implementing various support programs, including ▲pre-pregnancy health management ▲cryopreservation and storage of reproductive cells for those expected to experience permanent infertility ▲expanded financial support for infertility treatment for couples, as well as ▲assisted reproductive technology using frozen eggs and ▲medical expenses for high-risk pregnant women.
In particular, the eligibility for pre-pregnancy health management support has been expanded from couples wishing to conceive to all men and women aged 20 to 49, regardless of marital status or whether they have children. Foreigners with Korean spouses are also eligible without visa verification. The support amount has been increased to a maximum of 130,000 KRW for women and 50,000 KRW for men, up to three times in total.
The newly launched support program for cryopreservation and storage of reproductive cells for those expected to experience permanent infertility provides assistance to those who need to preserve fertility due to medical reasons. The program covers the cost of freezing and initial storage (1 year) of reproductive cells, with up to 300,000 KRW for men and up to 2,000,000 KRW for women, once per person.
The infertility treatment support program is open to all couples wishing to conceive, with no age limit for the mother and the number of supported procedures increased to 25 per childbirth.
Egg retrieval for empty follicles is also supported regardless of the number of attempts. In addition, couples with infertility who wish to conceive using frozen eggs can receive support for two assisted reproductive procedures using frozen eggs, with 1,000,000 KRW provided per procedure.
Furthermore, Seo-gu is implementing specialized projects to overcome low birth rates, such as providing postpartum care expenses and congratulatory birth gifts for mothers, as well as special support policies for families with multiple children (second child or more) and multiple births.
Kim Ikang, the head of Seo-gu District Office, stated, "By expanding pregnancy and childbirth support programs, we will reduce the financial burden on local residents and further strengthen birth-friendly policies so that everyone can benefit from comprehensive health and medical services at every stage before and after pregnancy and childbirth."
