Driving the Future of K-Defense
Seoul National University of Science and Technology hosted the 3rd Defense Artificial Intelligence Hackathon, showcasing talents and innovative technologies that will lead the future of K-Defense industry.
The event was organized by SeoulTech and supported by the Defense Technology Promotion Research Institute, Korea Defense Research Institute, and Defense Computer Information Center. In collaboration with defense companies such as LIG Nex1, 15 master's and doctoral students in the defense AI field presented their research outcomes through joint projects.
Seoul National University of Science and Technology successfully held the 3rd Defense Artificial Intelligence Hackathon on the 21st to lead the era of national defense 'AI DIVE IN'. This hackathon serves as an important platform for students to develop creative research capabilities and gain practical experience in advanced defense technology, expected to contribute to K-Defense technological innovation and future weapon system development.
At the event held on the 21st, over 40 military officials from the Defense Computer Information Center, Defense Acquisition Program Administration, and Korea Defense Research Institute, along with more than 60 defense industry representatives, attended. Six projects in the computer vision field, including ‘RGBXC-NET,’ and seven research projects in unmanned autonomy and LLM fields were intensively presented.
Notably, the team led by master’s student Jeong Ye-kyung and senior researcher Lee Jae-ho, who conducted joint research with Hyundai Rotem on the topic of ‘Task Assignment and Real-Time Search Algorithm for Multi-UAV Systems,’ received the President’s Award. Student Ham Min-woo, who developed the ‘CAM-based RGB-IR Fusion Object Detection Network’ in cooperation with Hanwha Systems, was awarded the Korea Defense Research Institute Director’s Award. A project jointly researched with LIG Nex1 also won the Defense Artificial Intelligence Convergence Research Institute Director’s Award, demonstrating excellent achievements.
Professor Emeritus Jeong Sang-hwa of SeoulTech (former Chief of Staff of the Air Force) stated, “Research presentations through industry-academia-research cooperation show a bright future for Korea’s defense industry.”
