Jeollanam-do will invest a total of 89.3 billion KRW this year in 52 projects across four sectors, aiming to strengthen the global competitiveness of the seafood food industry. The sectors include fostering the seafood food industry, establishing a new distribution system, promoting the solar salt industry, and supporting youth entrepreneurship.

To enhance the processing capabilities of seafood companies, Jeollanam-do will provide 53.9 billion KRW for 15 projects, including the completion of an international dried gim trading center and rental processing plants within the seafood export complex (total project cost: 113.7 billion KRW) by February 2026, the construction of seafood processing facilities at production sites, and the improvement of facilities for dried gim processing companies.

In response to the recent increase in raw gim production and the resulting need to improve processing capacity at dried gim companies, the provincial government is also proposing the allocation of 30 billion KRW in national funding for the modernization of dried gim processing plants and 60 billion KRW for the 'government stockpiling of dried gim' project in the upcoming government supplementary budget.

Additionally, 22.6 billion KRW will be invested in 21 projects, including the construction of dried gim logistics complexes (FDC/FPC) to regulate domestic supply and demand, the establishment of cold storage facilities for hygienic and safe seafood supply, the distribution of seafood transport boxes, and the improvement of seafood market facilities.

To enhance the competitiveness of solar salt, 10.8 billion KRW will be provided for 14 projects, including the distribution of automation equipment such as automatic salt harvesters, support for hygiene facility improvements like salt pan flooring upgrades, and brand value enhancement activities such as salt expos.

Furthermore, to support customized growth throughout all stages from new and prospective startups to mid-sized companies, 2 billion KRW will be invested in projects such as marine and fisheries startup investment support and startup leap support, which will foster new business creation, innovative product development, investment attraction capabilities, expert technical training, and export market development.

Kang Seokwoon, head of seafood distribution and processing at Jeollanam-do, stated on the 25th, "We will support Jeollanam-do seafood companies to establish a more systematic and competitive processing and distribution system."
