Ice Packs Added to Collection Items,
Exchangeable for Daily Necessities
Dongjak-gu, Seoul (Mayor Park Il-ha) announced on the 25th that it will expand the operation of the 'Recyclable Resource Resident Collection Reward System' to raise residents' awareness and participation in proper waste separation.
The Recyclable Resource Resident Collection Reward System is a project that compensates residents with daily necessities for recyclable items among household waste generated in daily life.
The district expanded the reward items last year from the existing paper packs to include used batteries and transparent PET bottles, and this year, it became the first autonomous district in Seoul to add gel-type ice packs. As a result, the number of reward item types has increased to a total of four, the highest among autonomous districts.
Starting from April this year, the ice packs will be collected by Dongjak Co., Ltd., a district-funded institution, then washed and disinfected before being distributed free of charge to Noryangjin Fish Market and traditional markets within the district. Additionally, various demand sources such as on-site workers during the summer will be identified to recycle the ice packs.
Any resident living in Dongjak-gu can participate, and those wishing to exchange items can visit their local community service center with recyclable materials. Every Thursday, five gel-type ice packs or thirty transparent PET bottles can be exchanged for one 10ℓ volume-based waste bag. Paper packs (2kg → 1 roll of toilet paper) and used batteries (20 pieces → 2 new batteries) are compensated regardless of the day of the week.
Mayor Park Il-ha said, “We have further expanded the operation of the Recyclable Resource Resident Collection Reward System and hope for active participation,” adding, “We will continue to promote various policies to spread the culture of resource recycling.”
