Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism Launches 'Guseok Guseok Cultural Delivery' Project in Culturally Vulnerable Areas

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced on the 25th that, together with the Regional Culture Promotion Agency, it will promote the 'Culture Day - Corner-to-Corner Culture Delivery' project during the week of 'Culture Day (the last Wednesday of every month)' starting from March.

The 'Culture Day - Corner-to-Corner Culture Delivery' project provides regionally customized cultural programs (performances, exhibitions, experiences, education, etc.) to culturally vulnerable areas, innovation cities, and cultural districts during the 'Culture Day' week. When this project was first implemented last year, it supported 831 programs in 53 regions nationwide, allowing over 260,000 people to enjoy culture.

This year, the project scale will be expanded. First, the project period will be extended from April-November last year to March-November this year, and industrial complexes have been added as new support targets so that more regions can access various programs. The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism plans to operate about 1,000 programs during the 'Culture Day' week this year, delivering culture to over 380,000 people.

On the 25th and 26th, the Ministry will hold a training session (orientation) for project implementing agencies and participating organization representatives at the Seoul Museum of Art in Jung-gu, Seoul. The training session will include project guidance, presentations of regional project plans, and Q&A related to project implementation. Through this, the Ministry aims to enhance the understanding of the project among newly participating implementing agencies and organization representatives and to prepare the 2025 project thoroughly.

Special lectures on cultural planning topics and a field visit to Jeongdong-gil as part of 'Local 100' will also be conducted. Local 100 refers to 100 selected local attractions, contents, and masters chosen by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to discover regional cultural charms and widely promote the value of regional culture.

Jeongdong-gil, famous for the Deoksugung Stone Wall Road, is home to many modern cultural heritage sites such as Jeongdong Theater, the starting point of modern Korean culture and arts, the former Russian Legation, Jeongdong Church, and Paejae Hakdang. Additionally, Jeongdong-gil hosts various cultural events including the Jeongdong Hanbakkwi guided tour program, Korea’s first cultural heritage night event 'Jeongdong Night Walk,' as well as various performances and experiential activities.

Song Yun-seok, Director of Regional Culture Policy at the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, stated, "Through the 'Culture Day - Corner-to-Corner Culture Delivery' project, we will create an environment where all citizens can freely enjoy culture anywhere in the country," and added, "We will continue to do our best to create culturally attractive regions by supporting projects tailored to regional characteristics and demands, including the 'Culture Day' project."
