Gwangju Dongbu Fire Station Urges Caution Against Restaurant Fires in Winter

Gwangju Dongbu Fire Station Urges Caution Against Restaurant Fires in Winter Restaurant Kitchen Fire Safety Poster. Provided by Gwangju Dongbu Fire Station.

Gwangju Dongbu Fire Station has urged the public to strictly follow safety guidelines to prevent kitchen fires in restaurants during the winter season.

According to Gwangju Dongbu Fire Station on the 24th, kitchen fires often occur when cooking oil is overheated or when grease accumulates in exhaust ducts and ventilation systems. In particular, fires in exhaust ducts can spread rapidly and develop into large-scale fires, so extra caution is required.

In response, the Dongbu Fire Station emphasized the following safety rules: ▲ Install exhaust ducts using non-combustible materials of at least 0.5mm thickness ▲ Regularly clean grease buildup from hoods, ducts, and walls ▲ Install filters that make grease removal easy ▲ Install automatic fire extinguishing systems for kitchens ▲ Ensure that K-class fire extinguishers are always available.

Moon Heejun, Chief of Dongbu Fire Station, stated, "Restaurant kitchens are spaces with a high risk of fire, so thorough inspections and preventive measures are essential. Not only restaurants but also households should create a safe environment through regular inspections and maintenance," adding, "In particular, K-class fire extinguishers are suitable for cooking oil fires, so please make sure to have them on hand."
